About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Now it is recognised in the West as a safe and effective form of medicine. It is used to treat physical and mental/emotional problems.

Acupuncture works with the body’s motivating energy or Qi (pronounced Chi). The Qi flows throughout the body along special channels. Very fine needles inserted into points along the channels access the Qi and so stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms.

Acupuncture is holistic and so treats the whole person. It has the tools to diagnose and treat the root cause of the illness as well as the symptoms. Each person is seen as unique and treatment is formulated to address that person’s individual pattern of imbalance.

Fertility, IVF Support, Pregnancy

Acupuncture has been shown in research to effectively treat many of the underlying causes of infertility in men and women. It is used to improve conception rates in couples undergoing ART (Assisted Reproductive Techniques) including: IVF, IUI and ICSI. Research has shown that when acupuncture is combined with IVF, the pregnancy rate is increased by 65% (British Medical Journal review, Feb 2008).

Acupuncture is very effective during pregnancy and is used to treat nausea and sickness, headaches, pain and discomfort, digestive problems and tiredness. It is also used to prevent miscarriage, correct breach position, and induce labour naturally.
